Bucklin v Halliburton Co., et. al.
Case No. 4:07-CV-01522
U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas (Houston)
Corporal Brock Bucklin, with utmost patriotism and courage, elected to serve his country honorably in Iraq. Tragically, on May 31, 2005, he was killed.
His death was not caused by combat or by enemy fire. Corporal Bucklin was fatally wounded while assisting a Halliburton / KBR, Inc. team with the removal of concrete barriers from an inactive military base in Iraq. He died following a failed towing effort on the part of the Halliburton / KBR team.
His family came to us for help.
After investigation, the law firm of Fibich, Hampton & Leebron sued Halliburton / KBR et. al. claiming Corporal Bucklin's death was avoidable and a result of the contractors' wrongful conduct.
The case was ultimately settled confidentially.
Folds of Honor
The death of Corporal Bucklin and the trauma to his family inspired the establishment of the charity foundation Folds of Honor, dedicated to aiding military families by providing scholarships to the spouses and dependents of military personnel killed or diabled.
The body of Corporal Brock Bucklin, accompanied by his brother Corporal Brad Bucklin, was flown home to Grand Rapids, MI on a domestic passenger jet. When the plane landed, the pilot requested that the passengers show their respect by remaining seated while the body was unloaded.
From his seat on the plane, Major Dan Rooney, Oklahoma Air National Guard, having served two tours in Iraq, watched as the tearful family met the flag draped coffin. Turning back to the plane, he saw that half of the passengers had ignored the request and had already de-boarded.
Shocked by the lack of respect and moved to action, Major Rooney dedicated himself and founded Folds of Honor. Working stateside as a PGA golf pro, Rooney partnered with the PGA and others to establish Patriot Golf Day. Over the Labor Day weekend thousands of public golf courses across the country collect an extra dollar in green fees as a donation to the cause.
